Strokes and Maneuvers Minimize

Strokes

Matching the Maneuvers

Listed below are the current maneuvers we have on the course outlines. Under each maneuver is a list of possible strokes that could be used to do that maneuver with a course level designation when that stroke could be introduced to do that maneuver. Intro uses the most basic strokes and the easiest to teach and as you go up the course levels, the strokes become more difficult.
I = Introduction to Canoeing, B = Basic Canoeing, O = Optional or Very Advanced.

Forward: boat goes forward in a reasonably straight line

Spins (onside and offside) boat pivots in place

Abeam: boat moves sideways without headway or pivoting

Turns: boat turns in broad arc made while underway

Stopping: boat stops within a reasonable distance

At the Basic Canoe level we add the following maneuvers:

Sideslips: boat moves sideways with headway

Reverse: boat goes backward in a reasonably straight line

Bracing Maneuvers? This is not mentioned in the current outlines and maybe should be and these strokes added to the stroke list at the Basic Canoe Level.
